Akash’s knock bolsters U.P.

VISAKHAPATNAM: Akash Varma scored a breezy half-century (68, 14x4) as Uttar Pradesh finished the first day of its all-India Cooch Behar Trophy quarterfinal against Karnataka at 257 for seven at the Zinc stadium here on Wednesday.

Left-arm spinner Abrar Kazi picked up four wickets, while off-spinner Karun Nair took two.

Haryana contained Baroda to 239 for eight at the Ukku stadium.

The scores: U.P. 257 for seven in 93 overs (Akash Varma 68, Ankit Tiwari 41, Umang Sharma 36 batting, Gagandeep Singh 35, Abrar Kazi four for 52) vs. Karnataka.

Baroda 239 for eight in 96 overs (Hitesh Solanki 65, Aditya Reddy 32, Swapnil Singh 30, Rahul three for 40) vs. Haryana.
