REWARD FOR EXCELLENCE: R. Umadevi Nagaraj, Pankaj Advani, Mundir Sherazi and Chitra Magimairaj. BANGALORE: The three Karnataka State Billiards Association cueists who returned with four National titles at the recently concluded National Billiards and Snooker championship at Indore were felicitated by the State Association in a simple function at the KSBA Hall here on Wednesday evening. While Pankaj Advani though a KSBA product but representing ONGC won a coveted double (billiards and snooker), R. Umadevi Nagaraj clinched the women’s billiards crown and young Mundir Sherazi claimed the sub-junior boys’ billiards title. Though chief guest Gulihatti D. Shekar, Minister for Sports failed to put in an appearance there was no dearth of excitement and enthusiasm with many past and present officials associated with the sport turning up. While Advani was presented with a trophy, Umadevi and Mundir were given cash awards of Rs. 20,000 and Rs. 10000 respectively by K. Govindaraj, President KOA. Chitra honouredChitra Magimairaj, winner of the Australian Open last month and double runner-up at the Indore Nationals was presented with a purse of Rs. 50,000, while all the qualifiers who made it to the tournament proper at the Nationals were awarded Rs 10,000 each.
