Easy for Hyd. Sporting

HYDERABAD: Hyderabad Sporting recorded a 2-0 win over Bolarum Sporting in the SAAP Budweiser Premier League football championship at Gymkhana Grounds here on Wednesday.

Winger Talah scored the first goal in the 49th minute of a fine solo effort. In the second session, Arif was on target with a long-ranger to complete the tally for the winners.

There will be no matches for the next two days and the event will resume on November 27, according to Aleem Khan, District Sports Development Officer.

Lohit Anand shines

Lohit Anand struck four goals to help AP Genco drub Nuclear Fuel Complex 8-0 in the B-Division hockey league championship at Gymkhana Grounds here. The winner led 4-0 at the break. The other scorers were Cripson (2), and Chandu Obulreddy and Venugopal with one goal apiece.

There will be no match on Thursday.

Gymnastics coach dies

V. Giriraj, gymnastics coach and in-charge sports officer of Andhra Pradesh Sports School (Hakimpet), died in a road accident near Saroornagar Stadium here late on Tuesday night. He was 35.

He was on his way back home after overlooking the preparations for the School Games national gymnastics championship to be held at the stadium from Thursday. In separate condolence messages, R. Ramodar Reddy, Minister for Sports and IT, Youth Affairs, S. N. Mohanty, Principal Secretary, Vikas Raj, SAAP VC & MD, K. Narsaiah, Special Officer of APSS, and L. Venkatram Reddy, APOA secretary, expressed profound shock at the demise of a coach who they recalled was a very dedicated, committed and knowledgeable coach. They expressed their sympathies to the bereaved family members. SAAP Coaches Association also expressed shock at Giriraj’s death.

Athletics probables

Andhra Pradesh Amateur Athletic Association named the probables to attend the preparatory camp-cum-selection trials for the National Games athletics to be held in Jharkhand from February 20, according to Prof. K. Ranga Rao, secretary of APAAA.

All the athletes should report at the GMC Balayogi stadium by 10.00 am on January 24. The State team to take part in the above National Games will be picked at the end of the camp.
