HASSAN: Timely action by students saved a girl from being kidnapped in Hallimysore in Holenarsipur taluk on Tuesday. The accused were handed over to the police. They were produced before a magistrate who remanded them to judicial custody the same day. According to Superintendent of Police K.V. Sharatchandra, Renuka from C Hebbur village in Arkalgud taluk, a student of Bharat Universal D.Ed College in Hallimysore, was staying in her relative’s house to pursue her studies. On Tuesday, when she was returning home from college with her friends, a van stopped near her and a person in it tried to pull her into the vehicle. When Renuka cried raised an alarm, her friends rushed to her rescue. They also caught Keerthi, who is said to have tried to kidnap her, and also the van driver Ningaraj. Mr. Sharatchandra said the accused Keerthi is also from Hebbur village and was harassing Renuka to go with him and when the girl refused to concede his request, he tried to kidnap her. The arrested have been remanded to 15 days judicial custody. Mr. Sharatchandra has lauded the students for rescuing Renuka.
