VS says appropriate decision after examining each case

Achuthanandan denies rift in the party.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan has said the CPI(M) will examine differences among party cadres in some parts of the State.

Talking to the presspersons after a meeting of the Cabinet here on Wednesday, the Chief Minister said appropriate decisions would be taken after examining each case, including the party’s defeat at the hands of dissidents in Shoranur municipal elections. He denied that factionalism was widespread in the party. “I do not have such an opinion,” he said. On privatisation, Mr. Achuthanandan said privatisation and private investments were different issues. The State would welcome private investment beneficial to the State, if they were found to be problem-free.

The Cabinet, he said, approved the bylaws of the proposed International Centre for Free Software and Free Knowledge to be set up in Thiruvananthapuram as part of the government’s plan to promote free and open source software. It also decided to acquire land for the Palakkkad Railway Coach Factory on a fast track basis. Two land acquisition units with 50 posts would be established for the purpose.

The Cabinet approved proposals for starting eight new Krishi Bhavans and sanctioned posts for the same. Besides, five posts would be created for the programme management of the Service and Payroll Administrative Repository of Kerala (SPARK). The repository would store data related to service matters of government employees. The Cabinet decided to start a behavioural paediatric unit at the SAT Hospital in Thiruvananthapuram. The Government Hospital at Peroorkada would be upgraded as a district model hospital. Sanction would be accorded for fund raising from different sources.

The Cabinet also decided to make sufficient funds available for building the approach road to the bridge connecting the Kadappattoor temple, near Pala.

Christmas greetings

The Chief Minister greeted the people of the State on the eve of Christmas. The message of Christmas is love and peace. The celebrations would promote brotherhood and secularism.
