A gesture to prisoners

CHENNAI: Family members of prisoners lodged in prisons across the State will be allowed a special interview on Christmas day (December 25).

Though interviews are not permitted on holidays, this is being treated as a special case, Director General of Prisons R. Natraj has said. Special diet, including biriyani, cakes and sweets will be served to inmates in association with voluntary organisations. Cultural programmes will be organised. The initiative will benefit about 15,500 prisoners. — Special Correspondent
