Tourism policy may be revised

BANGALORE: The Government will consider allowing private entrepreneurs to utilise the existing vacant land in the vicinity of tourist spots for the development of tourism and tourism-based business ventures, Principal Secretary to the Department of Tourism Subhir Hari Singh has said.
He was speaking at an interactive session organised by the Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce and Industry here on Monday.
Mr. Singh said the Government is keen on developing the existing tourism infrastructure and address all the related issues. It is also planning to revise its tourism policy.
Responding to pleas relating to reduction in value added tax and luxury tax on food and beverages, reduction in tax on vehicles on a par with the neighbouring States and arrangement of financing and re-financing of vehicles with bankers, Mr. Singh said that he would draw the attention of those concerned to these issues.
The president of the FKCCI, D. Muralidhar, welcomed the gathering. K. Shivashanmugham, chairman of the tourism committee of the FKCCI, presented a list of suggestions put across by the office-bearers of the FKCCI’s district units.
