‘Settle strike’
Staff Reporter
Tirupur: The Tirupur Exporters Association has urged the Centre to take steps to the settle the indefinite strike by transporters from December 20 as quickly as possible, which, otherwise, will have a cascading effect on the exports.
In a memorandum submitted to Union Minister for Road Transport T.R.Baalu, president of TEA A Sakthivel pointed out that the delay in shipping the garments from here to destinations abroad could result in the cancellation of orders from the buyers. “Tardy supply of goods can even spoil the credibility of the entire exporting fraternity in the country,” he said.
At a time when the textile industry was trying hard to wriggle out of the impact of global meltdown, any slowdown in transfer of goods to the ports could prove to be a catastrophe for the exporters here.
