STIR for a cause: Life Insurance Corporation of India employees staging a demonstration in Tuticorin on Tuesday. TIRUNELVELI: Protesting the Centre’s decision to increase the Foreign Direct Investment in the insurance sector from 26 per cent to 49 per cent, employees of Life Insurance Corporation Limited struck work on Tuesday. They also staged a demonstration in front of the LIC Divisional Office at Palayamkottai. Raising slogans against the Central Government’s decision, the protestors said it would destabilise the country’s economy. Following the protest, business transaction in the LIC offices was hit. NagercoilA total of 173 employees working in Life Insurance Corporation, United India Insurance, New India Insurance and National Insurance in different parts of the district staged a demonstration. Insurance Employees’ Welfare Association’s Regional Joint Secretary, Sakthi Balasubramaniam, also staged a demonstration in Nagercoil. TuticorinMembers of the All India Insurance Employees’ Association staged a demonstration on Beach Road here on Tuesday against the move to rise foreign direct investment in insurance sector from 26 to 49 per cent. It was led by S. Sekar, divisional vice-president. K. Kanagaraj, district secretary, CPI (M), spoke.
