Sarathkumar promises overall change

TIRUNELVELI: Coming down heavily on the Dravidian parties for the poor state of affairs in Tamil Nadu, the Akhila India Samaththuva Makkal Katchi president R. Sarathkumar promised that his party would bring about an overall change in the State in near future after being energised with party candidate’s victory in the Thirumangalam by-poll.

“If the Dindigul by-election gave the first electoral victory to late MGR, 477-day-old AISMK’s history of victory will start from Thirumangalam by-poll, where the money and muscle power to be unleashed by other political parties will be checked thoroughly” the actor-turned politician said while addressing a public meeting held at Palayamkottai on Sunday.

Mr. Sarathkumar said the AISMK would bring about an industrial revolution in the State, which was completely neglected after the “golden era” of late K. Kamaraj. While the successive ruling parties were concentrating on only populist schemes, far-sighted approach that alone could take Tamil Nadu to greater heights was comfortably forgotten.

“Tamil Nadu has plunged into utter darkness and the overall productivity has dropped phenomenally as the Dravidian parties failed to pay adequate attention to power generation. It has created unemployment everywhere. The AISMK will provide quality and uniform education, better infrastructure, excellent health services to every citizen,” he promised.

He said that the law and order situation in Tamil Nadu had deteriorated a lot in recent times and cited the attack on Congress headquarters, ‘Sathyamurthy Bhavan’ as an example.

Mr. Sarathkumar introduced R. Padmanabhan as the party’s candidate for Thirumangalam by-election. Party office-bearers A. Narayanan, Karu. Nagarajan, V. Selvaraj and others spoke.

Actress and Sarathkumar’s wife Radhika was appointed the party’s vice-president after it was proposed by senior leader of the AISMK and former civil servant N. Murugan.
