NEW DELHI: Janata Dal (United) President Sharad Yadav on Monday met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and urged him to release a special relief and rehabilitation package of Rs .14808.59 crore for the districts ravaged by Kosi floods in Bihar. In a memorandum submitted to Dr. Singh, Mr. Yadav said the breach in the embankment of Kosi river devastated vast areas of five districts including Saharsa, Madhepura, Supaul, Araria and Purnea affecting a population of 33 lakh people. Over 70 people were killed in the floods that destroyed more than three lakh houses and caused extensive damage to infrastructure, agriculture, livestock and livelihoods of people. “Adequate relief”According to Janata Dal (United), the Prime Minister assured Mr. Yadav of “adequate relief” for the State.
