Opposition leaders target Chief Minister

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: Displaying unity in their ranks brought about by Fisheries Department official V. Suryanarayana’s indiscretion, the Opposition parties on Monday targeted Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy for launching “operation cover-up”.

Addressing a press conference after an almost two-hour-long meeting, the TDP, TRS, CPI(M) and CPI leaders, N. Chandrababu Naidu, E. Rajender, B. V. Raghavulu and K. Narayana, said that by giving the six Ministers and the Chief Secretary a clean chit, the Chief Minister had made a mockery of the judicial enquiry.

Reiterating their demand that the government convene an all-party meeting and place all the files before it, they fixed Tuesday evening as the deadline. If they do not get any response, they plan to take it up with the Governor, N. D. Tiwari, on December 24 and then go to the people. By pre-judging and giving a clean chit, Dr. Reddy has virtually set the agenda for the judicial enquiry making his intentions clear of shielding the corrupt, Mr. Naidu alleged.

Claim dismissed

Mr. Raghavulu was dismissive of the government’s claim that it all began in the TDP’s rule wondering what prevented it from proceeding against TDP leaders for the last four years .
