Coimbatore: The sleuths of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) on Monday intercepted a Singapore-bound passenger at the Coimbatore Airport and seized 10.5 kg of Ketamine Hydrochloride drug valued at Rs 1.05 crore. The passenger identified as Sahul Hameed of Chennai was planning to travel from Coimbatore to Malaysia via Singapore by a Silk Air flight. DRI sleuths on examination of his baggage found white colour powder like substance believed to be Ketamine chloride. The seizure was made under the provisions of the Customs Act 1962. The passenger was arrested and remanded to judicial custody after adhering to the legal procedures. DRI sleuths said that Ketamine was essentially a veterinary anaesthetic and its abuse often resulted in an experience normally described as “out of body” or “near death”.
