ACTs of INNOCENce: Tiny tots presenting a cultural programme at the Annual Day celebrations of S. E. V. Matriculation Higher Secondary School; (right) Students of Karpaga Vinayagar Matriculation Higher Secondary School at the Fruits and Vegetables Day celebration. The Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) of Sourashtra Coeducational Higher Secondary School was inaugurated recently. The inaugural function featured programmes in English, involving students. Lower class children sung rhymes and it was followed by a dialogue on the achievements of the school in the last academic year. The highlight of the programme was a skit on Paramartha Guru and his disciples, staged in English. RM. Umayal, Principal, Tamil Nadu Polytechnic College, advised poor students to join the polytechnic which she said would help them get a technical diploma and a good job. Association president R.G. Ramesh Babu presided over the function. Headmaster B.R. Arangaraman welcomed the gathering. Correspondent A.K. Ramamoorthy also spoke. Prizes were distributed to students who had secured the first five ranks by G. N. R. Mahadevan, a hawker. With his meagre income, he has been giving prizes for students for many years. T. H. Lakshmanan, senior teacher, proposed a vote of thanks. Colourful programmesThe 18th Annual Day celebrations of S. E. V. Matriculation Higher Secondary School featured colourful programmes presented by students of various classes. An English play on Akbar and Birbal, folk dance, skating, gymnastics and silmabam display added variety to the celebration. Dinesh Ponraj Oliver, Deputy Commissioner, Madurai Corporation, distributed prizes to students for general proficiency. Correspondent S.E.V. Kaja Kamal, secretary K. Shahul Hameed and Principal K. Mathivadanan spoke. Knowing about fruits and vegetablesFruits and Vegetables Day was celebrated at Karpaga Vinayagar Matriculation Higher Secondary School, K. Pudur, in which Kindergarten students presented models of fruits and vegetables. Principal M. Saroja said that such programmes were conducted to make students identity the varieties of fruits and vegetables that were energy providers. Administrative Officer S.
