VISAKHAPATNAM: Railways kept its hopes alive, beating Uttarakhand 3-2 (22-25, 25-21, 17-25, 25-22, 15-11) in the men’s pool ‘A’ of the 57th National volleyball championships for the ONGC Cup at the Port indoor stadium here on Monday. Railway women, runner-up last year, scored their third win in pool ‘B’, beating Tamil Nadu 3-0, to become the first team to make the last eight knockout stage. International Kapil set the ball well for Srikanth and young Hari, while Pradeep was impressive in blocking. Host Andhra Pradesh men scored a win, beating Jharkhand in straight sets in pool ‘C’. At the Ukku Stadium, Jammu and Kashmir downed Assam 3-2 in 103 minutes and Rajasthan rallied from a two-set deficit to beat Bihar 3-2. Tamil Nadu men prevailed over Kerala 3-1 in a pool ‘B’ match on Sunday night. The results: Men: Pool A: Railways bt Uttarakhand 22-25, 25-21, 17-25, 25-23, 15-11.
