Fourteen others who were arrested during the protest were later released.

Five more persons were arrested on Sunday in connection with the burning of effigies of Congress leaders E.V.K.S. Elangovan and K.V. Thangkabalu on Saturday. The arrested persons were members of Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK).
