Paying price for not acting in time!
Special Correspondent
HYDERABAD: The three rebel Telangana Rashtra Samiti MLAs who were disqualified by Legislative Assembly Speaker K.R. Suresh Reddy on Monday ‘paid the price’ for not acting in time.
Alerted by the media reports that the judgment was about to be delivered on Monday, six rebels of the TRS facing disqualification under the anti-defection law put in their papers. Those who could rush to the city handed over their resignation letters to the Speaker personally while a couple of others tendered their papers by fax.
This was, however, not the case with Mandadi Satyanarayana Reddy who was said to have played down the chances of judgment being delivered ‘so early.’ Another MLA Soyam Bapu Rao, his associates claimed, could not take the “precautionary measure” of resigning as he was not aware of the provisions of the anti-defection law.
The case of T. Jayaprakash Reddy was different as he knew that the judgment would be delivered on Monday. Busy as he was with a series of programmes like laying foundation stones in his constituency, Mr. Reddy did not take a final decision on quitting. And, when he made up his mind on Monday morning, it was too late as the Speaker did not accept his resignation as had already finalised the judgment.
