HYDERABAD: President of European Federation of Biotechnology (EFB) Marc Van Montagu and President of Pfizer Global R and D, USA, Martin Mackay, have been selected for Genome Valley Excellence Award for 2009.

The award was introduced to recognise and honour eminent personalities, who made exceptional contribution to life sciences research and industry.

It was instituted by the State government during the first Bio-Asia 2004 and continued in every edition, according to a press release issued here on Monday.

Prof. Marc Van Montagu, who is also the founder chairman of Institute of Plant Biotechnology for Developing Countries, said “The award is special as it is the recognition of the value of genetic engineering in India.
