Awareness programme on HIV/AIDS

Staff Reporter

YERCAUD: A programme to raise awareness among people on HIV/AIDS was held at Vazhavanthi village here on Sunday.

The programme, organised by the Shevarayan Hills Tribal Community Development project to mark the World AIDS Day, called upon the people to join together to combat the stigma associated with the disease and enhance the support to those living with it.

People living with HIV/AIDS (PLHA) should be given support and encouragement to actively participate in the society, Project Manager Jayaprakash said.

A team from YMCA led by Dev Kumar performed cultural programmes explaining the spread of HIV/AIDS and prevention measures. A counsellor from the Integrated Counselling and Testing Centre Jagedesh also spoke.

Participants

Members of the Red Ribbon Club and self help groups attended the programme. A resolution was adopted to extend care and support to the PLHAs.
