Havanur report relevant today: P.G.R. Sindhia

Special Correspondent

SHIMOGA: Former Minister P.G.R. Sindhia said here on Monday that the fact those who had opposed the Havanur Commission report on the development of backward classes communities had become leaders of the backward classes was a sign of the times that we live in. Speaking after inaugurating a programme, “Havanur-Ondu Nenapu” (in memory of L.G. Havanur), organised by the District Valmiki Sene, he noted that the Havanur report was not against any caste and it was relevant even today for maintaining equality in society. He regretted that the report had not yet been implemented totally in the State. Reports submitted in favour of the backward classes were not an attempt to encourage clashes among castes. Mr. Sindhia said that Mr. Havanur cannot be identified as a leader of any caste but was related to all communities. Governments may come and go, but the memory of Mr. Havanur would remain forever, he added. President of the District Valmiki Sene Hanumanthappa presided over the programme. Basava Marulasiddha Swamiji, and Chairman of Health and Education Standing Committee Basavarajappa were present.
