Talent to the fore: Students displaying their projects at Angappa Educational Trust CBSE Senior Secondary School, Coimbatore. Students who were selected for the national level inter-school gymnastics event to be held in Andhra Pradesh from December 25 to 30 were felicitated at a function held in Little Flower Higher Secondary School (LFHSS) in Salem recently. A total of 14 students from LFHSS, St. John’s MHSS, St. Mary’s Girls HSS, Cluny MHSS and Vinayaka MHSS were selected for the event. LFHSS Headmaster Fr. S. Arulappan and Principal of St. Mary’s HSS Motcha Rakkini congratulated the students. WinnersM.G. Divya of Standard VII, R. Karthika of Standard IX and Sri Vidhya of Standard VI, all students of Sri Vani Matriculation Higher Secondary School in Thoppampatti in Namakkal district, bagged the first three places in the Marathon event under the girl’s category. The event was organised in connection to the World AIDS Day. A. Sathishkumar, a Plus I student, came fifth and A.P. Arivanandan came sixth in the boys category. Inspector of Police G. Raja inaugurated the event. School President V. Natanasabapathi, Secretary M. Sengodu and Principal A. Mathivanan congratulated the winners. Annual DayThe 34th Annual Day celebration of the Christus Rex Higher Secondary School was held in Udhagamandalam recently. Participating as the chief guest, the Vicar General of the Diocese of Ootacamund, A. Antonyswamy, urged the students to make leaders of substance their role models. He added that only education which fuels knowledge can contribute significantly to the economic well being of the country. The Correspondent, A.M. John Joseph, also spoke. The Principal, Janet Sebastian, presented a report. National integrationA programme, “Our strength in our unity” was organised by G. Ramaswamy Naidu Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Coimbatore, recently. Children brought alive the spirit of national integration through a colourful presentation. First prizeA team of 13 students from Stanes Higher Secondary School bagged the first prize in a dance competition organised by Kalaignar TV, Hallo FM and Abhirami Mall. The prize consisted of a trophy, and a cash award of Rs.1.5 lakh. The prize was handed over to the principal of the school, Prakash Babu, by Member of Parliament, Kanimozhi, at a function held recently. National Education DayAngappa CBSE Senior Secondary School celebrated National Education Day in memory of Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad, a freedom fighter and the first Union Minister of Education of Independent game. Poetry and Thirukkural recitation and drama were held. A project day was also conducted where the students displayed charts and clay models. Projects on rainwater harvesting, natural disasters and soil profile were also displayed. DemonstrationThe National Model Secondary School, Peelamedu, hosted a demonstration on fire precaution recently. The fire brigade from the Peelamedu Fire Station demonstrated the basic concepts of fire safety and prevention from accidents. Special instructions were given to the teachers on prevention of fire accidents. DonatedThe children of Park Global School provided crayons, candies, geometry boxes, and notebooks for the children of Oasis, an orphanage for girl children. The children spent a day with the inmates of the orphanage.
