Barcelona: A Maxi Rodriguez double pushed Atletico Madrid up to second in the Primera Liga with a 3-2 victory at Espanyol and champion Real Madrid beat Valencia 1-0 on Saturday. Argentina midfielder Maxi scored after seven minutes and at the end to complete Atletico’s victory after compatriot Sergio Aguero had made it 3-1 with nine minutes to go. Sergio Sanchez levelled for Espanyol early in the second half and Valdo nicked one deep into stoppage time but Atletico extended its unbeaten run to 15 games in all competitions. The results: La Liga: Real Madrid 1(Gonzalo Higuain (3)) bt Valenica 0; Espanyol 2 (Sergio Sanchez (57), Valdo Lopes (90) lost to Atletico Madrid (Maxi Rodriguez (7, 90), Sergio Aguero (81)). Serie A: Lazio 1 (Rocchi 66) bt Palermo 0; Siena 1 (Kharja 44) lost to Inter Milan 2 (Maicon 34, 83).
