Speed of trains increased

CHENNAI: Southern Railway has increased the speed of all mail/express trains on the Erode-Karur-Tiruchi Fort section to 110 km an hour. Earlier, in April speeds of 52 pairs of mail/express trains were increased to 110 kmph on another section of the zone. So far, the speed of 88 pairs of mail/express trains had been increased in the zone.

Permissible speed on recently converted sections have also been increased. They are: Thanjavur- Mayiladuthurai section (60 to 90 kmph), Vriddhachalam-Salem Market section (70 to 80 kmph), and Vanchi Maniyachchi to Tuticorin section (90 to 100 kmph).

The increase in speed will help in maintaining punctuality, according to a Southern Railway release. — Special Correspondent
