SriLankan Airlines office attacked in Coimbatore

Congress workers stage protest in Coimbatore

Coimbatore: Miscreants riding two-wheelers hurled stones at the SriLankan Airlines office on LIC Road in ATT Colony here, damaging glass panes on Friday night.

Following a complaint, the Race Course Police registered a case.

On Saturday morning, Congress activists staged a blockade on Avanashi Road at Uppilipalayam condemning the pro-LTTE speeches by director Seeman and Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam (PDK) leader Kolathur Mani. They also objected to certain remarks made against former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.

The activists demanded the arrest of Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) leader Thol Thirumavalavan for his continuing support to the LTTE.

Another group of Congress activists staged a road blockade at the Sungam Junction in Ramanathapuram in the evening.

In Salem, a bus was damaged when Congressmen pelted it with stones while staging a road blockade against the attack on Satyamoorthi Bhavan in Chennai. Window panes of the bus were broken. Nearly 50 Congress workers were arrested.

A group of Congressmen led by town president Panneerselvam, resorted to road blockade near the Collectorate.
