167 folk artistes enrolled in the welfare board

Staff Reporter

KARUR: A total of 167 folk artistes in Karur district have been enrolled as members of the State Folk Artistes Welfare Board so far, according to Collector J. Umamaheswari.

Speaking after disbursing identity cards to members on Monday, Dr. Umamaheswari said that the State government was extending a lot of benefits to folk artistes and enrolling members of the Board was one such activity.

For any benefit to devolve on the member, he or she should get enrolled with the board, she added.

The folk artistes who got the identity cards thanked the authorities and the administration for the opportunity to become members of the Board.

Assistant Director of Art and Culture R. Gunasekaran, Government Music School head mistress Devika Rani and others were present on the occasion.
