It will do well to join foreign collaborators: M. Annadurai

KARUR: Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) should be in a position to commercially exploit the offers in the field of aerospace business in the aftermath of the success of Chandrayaan I venture, Project Director M. Annadurai said here on Saturday.

However, he cautioned that ISRO itself might not be able to harness the full potential of the market by its own and would do well to join hands with foreign collaborators to achieve a better measure of success.

Buttressing his argument for increased collaboration with the rest of the international space players, Dr. Annadurai recounted the remarkable role played by the space agencies from the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, Spain, Japan and Bulgaria in the Chandrayaan I project. He was interacting with the media while on a visit to Karur on Saturday to attend functions in two colleges.

“Chandrayaan I is a classic example of success that India can lead the world in conquering technological frontiers,” Dr. Annadurai said.

Elaborating further Dr. Annadurai observed that all the 11 systems on board the mission vehicle were functioning pretty well and a lot of useful information and data were being received from them. The received data was being shared with all the 11 groups working as part of the mission. The teams would discuss the performance of the 11 systems, he added. The groups of scientists from various countries and who were on board the mission are expected to meet in Bengaluru on January 29 to discuss and deliberate on the data and information available. Decision on the exact location for landing the Chandrayaan II on moon would be decided during that meet, he said.

The ISRO Project Director made a presentation triumphant episode of the Chandrayaan I that held the audience in rapt at the Chettinad College of Engineering and Technology, where he was the chief guest at the valedictory of the International Conference on Computing, Communications and Networking. He also interacted with students of the VSB Engineering College near here.
