Abdul Sagir bags a double in carrom

HYDERABAD: Abdul Sagir of Nagpur bagged a double winning the men’s singles and doubles carrom titles in the 26th all-India Reserve Bank of India sports meet which concluded here on Saturday.

The results: Carrom: Men: Final: Abdul Sagir (Nagpur) bt G. Shiva 25-12, 24-25, 25-14; 3rd place: H. K. Umesh (Bengaluru) bt V. S. K. Naidu (Hyd) 19-18, 15-25, 25-24; Doubles: Final: Abdul Sagir & Anil Rambhad (Nagpur) bt V.S.K. Naidu & Y. Balasundar (Hyd) 25-2, 15-25, 25-5; 3rd place: G. Shiva & N. Venkatramana (Bengaluru) bt P.K. Sethi & H.S. Shah 25-7, 25-11.

Women: singles: Sangeetha Chandurkar (Mumbai) bt Shabhabathi Kumari (Patna) 25-24, 21-25, 25-17; 3rd place: Kavitha Somanchi (Bengaluru) bt R. Saritha (Chennai) 25-10, 25-14; Doubles: Final: R. Veterans: B.R.S. Shekawat (Jai) bt K.G. Saxena (Luck) 21-12, 21-18.

Easy win for SCR

South Central Railway drubbed Osmania University 7-0 in the inaugural Vamshi Krishna memorial invitation hockey tournament at Begumpet Police Stadium here. The winner led -4-0 at the break.

For the winners, M. James struck thrice, Prabhakar Singh twice and Md. Aleem and Mayur Subbaiah once each. Prabhakar Singh was named best player of the match.

In another match, Sports Authority of India (STC, Secunderabad) defeated Warangal District Hockey Association XI 7-0 with Arvind and Shiva Kumar netting two goals apiece while Satyamaheshwar Rao, Thimmaiah and Sampath Kumar once each. Arvind of SAI was named best player of the match.

APHC wins

The AP High Court recorded an eight wicket win over Ranga Reddy Court in the final of the Shankar Rao Bilolikar inter-district advocates cricket tournament at the Water Works Ground.

The score: Ranga Reddy 70 (S. Anil five for 14) lost to AP High Court 71 for two (Vamsidhar Reddy 33).

Chess tournament

Ranga Reddy District Chess Association will organise an Amateur championship on December 28 at DAV Public School (Vivekananda Nagar, Kukatpally).
