CISF officer held on corruption charges
Special Correspondent
CHENNAI: Officials of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested a Deputy Commandant of the Central Industrial Security Force on corruption charges here on Friday.
According to CBI sources, Balaji Steel Company had purchased steel scrap worth about Rs.4.27 lakh from Chennai Petroleum Corporation Limited. When C. Narayanan, a representative of the company, came to take the material on Tuesday, the Deputy Commandant, Rajender Singh, demanded Rs.2,000 as bribe for authorising delivery and removal of the auctioned steel scrap from CPCL premises.
Mr. Narayanan lodged a complaint with the CBI’s Anti-Corruption Branch following which a case was registered. A special team laid a trap and arrested Rajender Singh in the presence of official witnesses after he took the bribe money from Mr. Narayanan. Searches were conducted on the residential premises of the accused.
Rajender Singh was produced in a court and remanded to judicial custody till January 2, the sources added.
