Kumaraswamy reaches Deodurga to take part in byelection campaign Deodurga: The former Chief Minister and State president of the Janata Dal (Secular) H.D. Kumaraswamy on Saturday alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Government in the State was misusing power to gain an upper hand in the coming byelections. However, the Election Commission had not taken any action to control what he described as unethical electoral practices adopted by the ruling party. He reached Deodurga town on Saturday to take part in the party’s byelection campaign where C. Raghu is the Janata Dal (Secular) candidate. Mr. Kumaraswamy said that other political parties had noticed that the services of all key departments and the police were being utilised by the BJP to influence voters in the eight Assembly constituencies where byelections are being held. His party had lodged several complaints with the State Election Commission in this regard but there was no response. Criticising the remarks by Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president R.V. Deshpande regarding the failure of the Janata Dal (Secular) and the Congress to come to an electoral understanding, Mr. Kumaraswamy said that under the leadership of Mr. Deshpande the Congress would collapse soon after the byelections. Bandeppa Kashempur, Alkod Hanumanthappa and Iqbal Ansari, former Ministers; Venkat Rao Nadagouda, Sindhanur MLA; and Rangappa Naik, former MP, were present. Mr. Kumaraswamy participated in a road show organised by party workers in Deodurga town and addressed public gatherings in Jalahalli, Galag, Arkera and Masarkal villages.
