Mini-marathon to be held at Villupuram on January 9

VILLUPURAM: It has been proposed to conduct a mini-marathon here on January 9, 2009.

Those who are willing to participate can register their names with District Sports Officer Thirumugam till 5 p.m. on December 31, according to Collector R. Palanisamy.

Distance to vary

In a statement released here, he said that the distance of the run to be organised on Villupuram-Mugaiyur road would vary depending upon the age and sex: for men – 12 km, women – 8 km, and for school boys and girls – 5 km each.

Cash prize

The first three prizes for men would be Rs. 1 lakh, Rs. 50,000 and Rs. 25,000. All participants would get certificates. At the time of registration the participants should produce age proof.

Only those found eligible after the medical test would be allowed to take part in the event, he said.
