NEW DELHI: The polls to elect the teacher representatives for the Academic Council and Executive Council of Delhi University were held on Friday. About 75 per cent polling was registered at the 43 polling centres spread across Delhi University. There are five candidates in fray for the Executive Council for which two teachers will be elected. Thirty-four teachers will contest for the membership of 26 seats in the Academic Council. Out of these 26 seats, four will be reserved for lady teachers, as many for University appointed teachers and two for professional colleges, of which one each will be for medical and non-medical side. The results of the Executive Council elections are likely to be announced by Saturday, while those of the Academic Council will come in by Monday morning. The candidates from the Democratic Teachers’ Front are: Rajib Ray for Executive Council; and Abha Dev Habib, Rakesh Kumar, Sheo Dutt and Vijaya Venkataraman for Academic Council. The National Democratic Teachers’ Front has fielded the following: Manoj Kumar Khanna for Executive Council; Jaspali Chauhan, Anurag Mishra, Surendra Kumar, Shree Prakash Singh and Rajni Abbi for Academic Council. Ashwini Shankar is the Indian National Teachers’ Congress (INTEC) candidate for the Executive Council, while for Academic Council, the outfit has fielded R.S. Dahiya, Arun Kumar, Sanjay Tyagi, Sanjay Verma and Ramesh Kumar. The candidates from the Academics for Action and Development are: Shiba C. Panda for Executive Council; and Meena, Rajiv Kumar Verma, J. Khuntia and Kishor Kumar Aggarwal for Academic Council. There are other groups in the fray too. The Forum for Democratic Struggle has fielded Vijay Singh, while the Democratic Teachers’ Forum for Social Justice is supporting Dhani Ram for Academic Council membership. The University Teachers’ Forum has fielded Aruna Chhikara and D.V. Singh for Academic Council.
