Rs.360 crore for flood prevention

CHENNAI: The Central Government has sanctioned Rs.360 crore under the Jawaharlal Nehru Urban Renewal Mission to undertake flood prevention works in north Chennai.
According to a press release, under the project a canal connecting Otteri Nullah and the Cooum would be formed. Residents of Vyasarpadi and Pulianthope would benefit from this. Another canal would be formed linking Retteri and Madhavaram eri, which would benefit residents of Kolathur . Desilting work would be undertaken in the Captain Cotton and Kodungaiyur canals as part of the project. New stormwater drains for a length of 150 kms would also be constructed.
