20,000 houses to be constructed under JNNURM

COIMBATORE: The Coimbatore Corporation handed over on Friday certificates for a loan of Rs.20,000 each to 233 beneficiaries of the Basic Services to Urban Poor project.

The Corporation said that over 20,000 houses are to be constructed under this project, with grants from Central and State Governments as part of the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM).

To enable the beneficiaries to contribute their share of the cost of a house, the Corporation had arranged for loans with nationalised bank at four per cent interest. Mayor R. Venkatachalam handed over the loan certificates to the beneficiaries, in the presence of Deputy Mayor N. Karthik and Corporation Commissioner Anshul Mishra.The Corporation said in a press release that 289 beneficiaries got loans from Indian Overseas Bank, 285 from Indian Bank, 86 from Canara Bank and 13 from Dena Bank. Camps for receiving applications for loans were held at the four zone offices of the Corporation on November 27.
