Selvam to go by Mayawati’s advice
B. Kolappan
CHENNAI: Sitting member of the Mangalore Assembly constituency, Selvam, whose resignation from the Assembly has been rejected by the Speaker, says he will go by the advice of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) leader Mayawati before taking next step.
Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi has clarified that Mr. Selvam’s resignation letter did not conform to the prescribed format.
As per 21 (1) of the Assembly rules, any member who wants to resign should convey his decision to the Speaker through a form in appendix-F. But, Mr. Selvam wrote a letter expressing his desire to quit the House.
“As far as I am concerned I have submitted my resignation. I came to know about its rejection only through media reports. I have not received any information from the Speaker R. Avudaiappan. Anyway, I will take the next step only after consulting my leader, who is visiting Chennai on December 21,” he told The Hindu.
