Caterpillar India signs MoU with government

Chennai: Caterpillar India, a United States-based heavy machinery giant, on Thursday signed a memorandum of understanding with the State government to set up a Rs.800-crore heavy engineering equipment manufacturing plant.
The MoU was signed in the presence of Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi by Principal Secretary (Industries) M.F. Farooqui and Caterpillar India president Kevin R. Deenamen.
Caterpillar India will manufacture heavy engineering equipment used in construction and mining industry.
The company will also expand its existing manufacturing plants at Thiruvallur and Hosur. The plants have been providing jobs to 2,400 people. Indirectly, 7,500 people will get jobs. The new project in Chennai will generate 600 direct jobs and 1,900 indirect jobs.
