Smart cards to replace RC books

Staff Reporter

“New system throughout State shortly”

K.N. Nehru

Tiruvannamalai: The Smart card system, introduced at Tiruvanmiyur, Cuddalore and Sivaganga Regional Transport Offices, will be extended to other parts of the State shortly, according to Transport Minister K.N. Nehru.

These cards will replace RC Books and driving licence and cannot be tampered with.

He was inaugurating a new Regional Transport Office building, constructed at a cost of Rs.125 lakh, on the collectorate campus here.

New integrated check posts will be set up at four places along the State borders. These check posts, emulating the Gujarat model, will verify the weight of cargo vehicles, type of cargo, RC book, driving licence and other aspects, he said.
