THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Higher Secondary National Social Service Scheme (NSS) will conduct a seven-day camp in all its 344 units from December 20 to 26. Nearly 17,200 volunteers are expected to take part in the camps. Some of the topics that will be discussed during the camp include benefits of organic farming, conservation of water bodies, campaign against terror and energy conservation. In addition to this, there will also be seminars, rallies and street plays. The camp will also initiate activities that will help to determine the water quality of nearly one-lakh wells in the State. The week-long programme, organised by the Department of Higher Secondary Education, will be inaugurated by Minister for Water Resources N.K. Premachandran at Shantiniketanam Model Higher Secondary School, Patharam, Kollam on Friday. Under the ‘Krishikkuttom’ project, the volunteers of NSS have already started organic farming in their respective wards. The programme was inaugurated by Mr. Premachandran at Eapen Memorial School, Kollam, and the harvest by Minister for Agriculture Mullakkara Ratnakaran. The ‘Jalayanam’ project by NSS is aimed at the conservation and rejuvenation of water bodies across the State. The project was inaugurated at Mananchira, Kozhikode, and an awareness drive in this regard is going on.
