Man held on charges of preparing fake documents

TAMBARAM: Personnel of the Central Crime Branch of Chennai Suburban Police have arrested a land grabber on charges of preparing fake documents and selling land belonging to someone else, to unsuspecting people.

A release said Narayanan Kutty Menon of Shastri Nagar, Adyar, submitted a petition at the Commissionerate, stating he had purchased two grounds of land in Meenakshi Nagar, Pallikaranai, some years ago but had left it unattended to for a long time.

Recently, when he visited the land he was shocked to note that its layout was altered. On enquiries, he established that K.P.Anand of Pallikaranai had prepared duplicate ‘pattas’ and other documents, sub-divided his land and sold them to a group of people, who were unaware of it. When Narayanan Kutty Menon contacted K. P.Anand, he was threatened by the latter. A CCB team established that Anand had prepared false pattas and arrested him. The release said he was involved in such cases in the past, cheating private organisations and a couple of nationalised banks to the tune of Rs. 8 crore. Further investigations are on.

Burglary

Gold jewellery weighing about 10 sovereigns were burgled from a house in Manapakkam on Wednesday.

Krishnan (60) had gone to a private hospital in Porur and returned in the evening. The front door and the almirah were broken open and the jewellery, Rs.5,000 in cash, a DVD player and a cell phone were missing.
