Programme to improve teachers’ competence

Special Correspondent

‘Constant work needed to sustain their morale’

Need for a vigorous academic dialogue in the teaching community

Dynamic academic atmosphere to be built by educational exchanges

JAIPUR: The second phase of a unique learning guarantee programme aimed at qualitative improvement in education in the primary schools will shortly begin in Sirohi district of Rajasthan.

The first phase of three years’ duration, launched in 2005, ended in the district recently.

Addressing a workshop of teachers and employees of schools on Wednesday, Sirohi Collector Siddharth Mahajan underlined the need for a vigorous academic dialogue in the teaching community to improve its capacity and benefit the students. “Constant work is required to sustain high morale of teachers,” he said.

Mr. Mahajan affirmed that a creative and dynamic academic atmosphere could be built up in the primary schools in the district by strengthening the arrangements for regular educational exchanges. Such a system would also inspire the students to discover knowledge along with their teachers, he added.

Appointments

The second phase of the learning guarantee programme will entail appointment of district academic groups and their regular capacity enhancement, providing feedback to schools, conducting baseline studies and holding workshops and competitions for teachers at the block level.

Learning guarantee programme’s Nodal Officer Ashok Vyas said the second phase would significantly improve the competence and proficiency of teachers as well as the school staff. It will also help upgrade the system for appraisal of students’ performance.

Zila Parishad’s Chief Executive Officer Ashfaq Hussain, Additional Collector Mahipal Singh Ujjawal, project coordinators and representatives of Doosra Dashak Project and Primary Education Board also attended the workshop.
