CPI(M) seeks CBI probe

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Wednesday said the cash-for-votes scam should be referred to the CBI for a probe into the role of all those named.

In a statement, the party’s Polit Bureau said the parliamentary committee that went into the issue “utterly failed” to expose those responsible for this “dark chapter” in the country’s parliamentary history.

The party said it was necessary to restore the credibility of Parliament and expose the dimensions of this crime so as to punish the guilty.

he case should be referred to the CBI with a clear mandate to investigate within a fixed timeframe of three months.
