“Government has failed to protect citizens”

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court has pulled up the executive for its continuous failure to protect citizens from terror attacks over the years.

“With anguish and pain I wish to state that there has been utter failure on the part of each government right from the first terrorist attack in Mumbai in 1993 to protect its citizens from ruthless and barbaric attacks from mindless terrorists,” Mr. Justice Kailash Gambhir of the Court observed.

Mr. Justice Gambhir made these observations while dismissing petitions by two of the accused of this year’s serial blast case seeking quashing of an order by a lower court to extend their police remand beyond the statutory time period of 15 days.

“Our country did not awake even after these militants had attempted an outrageous attack on Parliament in 2001,” Mr. Justice Gambhir stated.

Mr. Justice Gambhir expressed concern at the state of preparedness of the security forces.
