Ration rice seized from van

RAJAPALAYAM: A team of officials seized 1,835 kg of ration rice that was being smuggled in an air-conditioned passenger van here on Wednesday.

Rajapalayam Taluk Supply Officer Saraswathi, along with other officials, intercepted a van near Madathupatti.

They found 79 bags of rice that were meant for sale under the public distribution system in the vehicle.

The consignment was brought from a rice-mill in Dhalavaipuram.

The van has been handed over to the Rajapalayam North police for further action, a statement said.
