Cluny Convent takes title

BANGALORE: Cluny Convent defeated host Mary Immaculate School 32-26 in the final of the Marry Immaculate School golden jubilee inter-school basketball championship here. The winner trailed 20-21 at half-time.

Cluny Convent 32 (B.C. Karishma 11) bt Mary Immaculate School 26 (C.G. Aishwarya 14, Steffi Catherine 10).

Kishan scalps five

Kishan’s five-wicket haul helped BEL Colony Recreation Club defeat Deccan United CC by 107 runs in a KSCA Group I, fourth division league match here recently.

Saloni sizzles

Saloni Varma defeated Apoorva 7-4 in a girls’ under-18 pre-quarterfinal match of the Mahila Seva Samaja Tennis Club’s annual State ranking tournament here on Wednesday.

Vanitha shines

V.R. Vanitha’s 102 set the base for Karnataka Institute of Cricket’s (KIOC) 160-run victory over Raichur Zone in a KSCA women’s super league match here recently.

KIOC 232 for five in 50 overs (V.R. Vanitha 102, Karuna Jain 60) bt Raichur Zone 72 in 37 overs; Raichur President’s XI 93 in 40.2 overs (Sumitha five for 20) lost to Falcons SC 96 for two in 18.4 overs.

Brace by Thomas

J. Thomas scored a brace as South defeated North 5-1 and entered the semifinals of the DGQA inter-zonal football tournament.

Ram Kumar, Krishna Kumar and Stanley also scored for the victor while A.K. Upadhyay chipped in North’s lone goal in the 20th minute.

Thursday’s semifinal line-up: South vs West; East vs Central.

Santosh delights

C.S. Santosh, with another flawless display, won the Gulf Cup ‘Clash of the Titans’ at Nashik on Sunday.

The TVS Racing Bangalore rider, who topped in the earlier rounds at Mangalore, Pune, Jodhpur and Nashik, was the overwhelming favourite in this leg and was in a class of his own in a field that had only the top riders from the previous rounds.

Besides winning the Indian Expert Class Group ‘A’ foreign motorcycles upto 260cc, he also won the Indian Expert Class Group B upto 260cc 2 & 4 stroke to emerge richer by Rs. 54,000.

His pickings from the meet included the highest takeaway of Gulf Oil’s overall purse of Rs. 3.91 lakh and trophies worth Rs. 40,000.

Santosh’s TVS Racing teammate, H.K. Pradeep, finished second and Veer Patel was third.

Easy for Lions School

Lions School registered a 10-wicket win over JK School of Hubli in the KSCA under-16 inter-school cricket tournament at the Karnataka Gymkhana Ground in Hubli on Wednesday.

The scores:

JK School 60 all out in 24 overs (Chaitanya Patil four for 8) lost to Lions’ School 60 for no loss in 8.1 overs.

Gymnastics championship

The Karnataka State Gymnastics Association will conduct the State championship for seniors, juniors and sub-juniors at Tumkur on December 20 and 21, according to M. Nagendra Prasad, hony. secretary, KSGA.

RGUHS hogs limelight

Host Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) led the fray with 18 gold, 16 silver and six bronze medals on the second day of the all-India inter-health university athletics championship at the St. John’s Medical College Ground, Bangalore on Wednesday.

Winter camps

SPT Sports will host winter camps in football and golf from December 20 to 31 at its Academy in Bangalore.

Selection trials

The Karnataka Amateur Archery Association will conduct selection trials for sub-junior boys and girls at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium, Bangalore, on December 24.
