NEW DELHI: The age-old rivalry between two of Capital’s prestigious colleges — Hindu and St. Stephen’s — will be revived with nostalgia and emotions when the accomplished cricketers of yesteryear clash for the Harmony Cup at the Ferozeshah Kotla here on Saturday. The Twenty20 match will be played to mark the Golden Jubilee celebrations of Hindu College. Kirti Azad will captain Stephen’s while Vinay Lamba has been named to lead the Hindu alumni. The proceeds from the match will be utilised to fund a Braille Library in Hindu College. Others from the alumni of the two colleges include, Prakash Bhandari, Surinder Khanna, Vijay Dahiya, Saba Karim, Nikhil Chopra, Rahul Sanghvi, Gagan Khoda, Murali Kartik, Manmohan Sood, Venkat Sundaram, Rajinder Pal, Sunil Valson, Gursharan Singh, Aakash Chopra, Gautam Gambhir, Ajay Jadeja, Hari Gidwani, Ashok Gandotra, Rakesh Shukla, Arun Lal, Arun Bharadwaj, Debashis Mohanty, Deep Dasgupta, Anil Bharadwaj, Asjit Jayaprakash, V. Arvind, Tilak Raj, Pradeep Jain, Abhinav Chaturvedi, Bharat Awasthy and Rohit Sahni, For years, Hindu and Stephen’s battled for supremacy in various inter-college competitions, with the cricket final between the traditional rivals being the most awaited contest of the academic session. But later, in the early 1980s, with the rise of PGDAV, a South Campus College, that produced players like Manoj Prabhakar, K.P. Bhaskar, Ajay Sharma, Raman Lamba, Atul Wassan, Sanjeev Sharma, the dominance of Stephen’s and Hindu stood firmly eroded. The Harmony Cup was unveiled here on Wednesday by Prakash Bhandari. — Special Correspondent
