CHENNAI: The fourth edition of the JK Tyre junior racing championship will be held for two weekends, starting from December 20. Designed to encourage young talent in the age group of 15 to 24, the event has been a tremendous success. To be staged at the MMSC track, the championship will help the youngsters showcase their skill in driving Formula Maruti vehicles. The popularity of the event is such that four applicants are in the waiting list since only 16 machines are available. There will be two rounds on each of the racing days after the qualification races on Saturday. The young drivers will also have the benefit of guidance from star drivers Narain Karthikeyan and Karun Chandok as well as former champions Vicky Chandhok and Akbar Ebrahim. Apart from the Formula Maruti races, interest will be kept alive through the TVS race-a-bike event for which around 40 entries have been received.
