Gilani for normalising ties
Nirupama Subramanian
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani on Tuesday reiterated his government’s desire to normalise ties with India.
At a meeting with United States Senator John Kerry, who arrived here after his visit to New Delhi, Mr. Gilani said Pakistan wanted cordial and friendly ties with “all its neighbours.”
According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, he said Pakistan did not harbour any “aggressive designs” against India, and would not allow any individual or entity on its territory to harm bilateral ties.
On a day when External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee confirmed that the composite dialogue process was in “pause” mode, the Pakistan Prime Minister said his government remained committed to the four-year-old process and wanted to resolve all outstanding issues with India “amicably.”
Mr. Gilani also briefed Mr. Kerry on the steps Pakistan had taken.
