Man held for cheating

TAMBARAM: Police have arrested a 36-year-old man on charges of cheating a woman after promising to marry her and also for not repaying a loan amount he had taken from a private bank in her name.
Police said R. Shankar of Madurai had promised a widow in Meenambakkam, working in a central government company, that he would marry her. He also made her apply for a loan of Rs.3 lakh from a bank. Shankai working in the private bank that sanctioned the loan, took the jewellery, Rs.2 lakh in cash that belonged to her and the Rs.3 lakh bank loan and left for Bangalore. The woman sent a complaint to the Chief Minister’s Cell, , which was in turn forwarded to Meenambakkam police station. A team traced the man and arrested him.
