Members of VOs from five districts will attend the meeting YSR to lay stone for ‘maha gopuram’ atop Indrakeeladri VIJAYAWADA: A record amount of Rs.140 crores will be distributed to members of Self-Help Groups (SHGs) of Krishna district in the form of bank linkage (loans) during Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy’s visit to the city on Thursday, according to district Collector N. Sridhar. Addressing a press conference on Tuesday the Collector said the Chief Minister would spend close to two-and-a-half hours in Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation Stadium, interacting with about 35,750 members of SHGs drawn from five districts as part of a series of regional meetings he had been having with women SHGs. Each village organisation (VO), the most primary unit of the SHG structure under Indira Kranthi Patham (IKP), would be represented by five members. VO members from Krishna, Guntur, Prakasam, Nellore and Khammam districts would attend the meeting and some of them would share their experiences in SHG movement with the Chief Minister. Krishna district alone was being represented by about 9,000 members from 1,500 VOs. Of the Rs.140 crores loans planned to be given away to the Krishna Zilla Samakhya, Rs. 110 crores would go to 5,600 rural SHGs and the remaining Rs. 30 crores to about 2,000 urban SHGs. With this, the total amount of loans distributed to SHGs by banks in Krishna district during the current financial year would reach Rs. 340 crores as against a target of Rs. 460 crores. About other programmes in the Chief Minister’s tour, the Collector said Dr. Reddy would reach Gannavaram airport by helicopter around 10 a.m. and drive down straight to Indrakeeladri, the abode of goddess Kanakadurga for a darshan of the goddess and to lay foundation stone for a ‘maha gopuram’ to be constructed at a cost of Rs. 32 crores. The Chief Minister would leave Indrakeeladri around 10.45 a.m. and reach the stadium at 11 a.m. for interaction with the SHG members. Post-lunch, Dr. Reddy would address a meeting of the BC Ikya Vedika in Tummalapallivari Kshetrayya Kalakshetram from 2.30 p.m. to 3 p.m. before departing for Gudlavalleru by air.
