KANCHEEPURAM: Thieves broke into a house at Oorapakkam and decamped with 17 sovereigns of gold jewellery and cash of Rs. 20,000 recently.

According to police, the theft came to light when the inmates returned from Tiruchi on Monday. They found the main door broken open and the almirah ransacked.

Subsequently, the house-owner, Ponraj (65), who had left for Tiruchi along with his family members three days ago and returned home today, lodged a complaint with the Guduvanchery police.
