Arrows-SAI match drawn

CHENNAI: The excitement in the later part of the second half notwithstanding, Arrows FC and Sports Authority of India (SAI) played out a goalless draw in the St. Joseph’s College of Engineering-Chennai Football Association senior division league championship here on Monday.

Known to spring surprises, SAI upped the tempo with a spirited display late in the contest, but there wasn’t to be a twist in the tale. Arrows played with a plan in the first half and dominated the session.

Earlier in a first division match, TNEB and Chennai Soccer scored a goal each. N. Parthiban scored for TNEB while S. Murugan converted for Soccer.

Chess tournament

Solar Chess Club will conduct its open chess tournament from January 24 to 26 at the Padma Seshadri School, K.K. Nagar, in the under-8, 10, 12, 14 and 18 categories. Entry forms are available at Solar House, Mylapore.

Tarun triumphs

Tarun Veeraraghavan carded an eight-over-par 78 to win the Madras Gymkhana Club’s monthly medal tournament in the Open category on Sunday.

The results: Open (gross): 1. Tarun Veeraraghavan 78, 2. R. Shivraj 81; Handicap (nett): 1. Venkat Krishnan 70, 2. B. Ravi 74; Handicap above-19: Winner: V. Vasudevan 69 nett.

TT tournament

The Rev Mc’voy memorial State-ranking tennis tournament will be held at the St. Michael’s Academy HSS, Adyar from December 29 to January 3. Competition will be in boys’ (u-12, 14, 18) and girls’ (u-14, 18) sections. Entries close on December 20. For details, contact Sam George. Ph 98404 56811.
